Then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you

Pastor Gary & Sherrie Crandall
A farewell tribute
A Tribute to Retiring Pastor Gary Crandall
Bella Vista Community Church joyfully honors Pastor Gary Crandall as he retires after 46 remarkable years of faithful ministry - and after blessing our congregation so deeply during his three years as Lead Pastor.
From the moment Gary stepped into the pulpit at BVCC, it was clear that God had uniquely prepared him for this season of our church’s life. His bold and uncompromising Bible teaching sharpened our understanding of Scripture and strengthened our confidence in the truth of God’s Word. Week after week, Gary invited us to think more deeply, grow more courageously, and follow Christ more wholeheartedly. Our congregation is more grounded and more spiritually resilient because of his leadership.
Yet it was not only Gary’s teaching that made an impact - it was his heart. He served with humility, gentleness, and a genuine love for people. He listened well, encouraged faithfully, and shepherded our church with compassion and integrity. Many have found in him not just a pastor, but a wise counselor, a steady guide, and a true friend.
Gary’s ministry has always been a partnership, and BVCC extends our gratitude to Sherrie, his wife of 56 years. High school sweethearts from North Carolina, Gary and Sherrie came to faith together in 1975 while Gary was stationed with the U.S. Army in Germany. Their shared journey has taken them around the world - from teaching at a Bible college in Guam to serving as missionaries in Africa - and ultimately to serving congregations across the United States. Their life together continues to be a powerful testimony of commitment, grace, and joyful service.
Pastor Gary is a graduate of the University of Maryland, Grace Theological Seminary, and Dallas Theological Seminary. He has written four books, including True Discipleship (2018), and remains a lifelong learner. Gary and Sherrie are the proud parents of three children who live in Kansas, North Carolina, and Florida, and they cherish their eight grandchildren and eight great-grands!
While Gary’s formal role at BVCC concludes, his influence remains woven into the fabric of our church. His commitment to Scripture, his love for God’s people, and his steady faithfulness have left a lasting imprint on all of us. We give thanks for the privilege of sharing these years with him and look forward to witnessing all that God has ahead in this new season of life!
With deep gratitude and warm affection,
The Bella Vista Community Church Family
