The Parable of the Seed Growing

Mark 4.26-29
And he said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how. The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”
This parable is only recorded in the Gospel of Mark. The kingdom of God or the reign of God is compared to a seed that has the power within itself to produce a harvest. The man does not even understand how it is possible. Over time he sees the result of what God has made possible.

Perhaps you are concerned today because it is difficult for you to see that God is in control. This parable reminds us that even if we do not see how God is at work one day we will not be able to miss the produce in the field. We should patiently trust God. At Jesus’ Second Coming there will be salvation and judgment. God’s will will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
