The Day of the Lord Will Return

2 Peter 3.10
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
Have you been thinking about the Lord’s return lately? As COVID-19 continues on, along with racial, economic and political unrest in our country and most of the world, I believe it’s important now more than ever to be thinking about the Lord’s return. As Peter points out the Lord will return like a thief which shows semblance to Jesus’ teaching from Matthew 24.43-44 and Luke 12.39-40. Jesus compares the vigilance that the head of a household should have toward a potential thief and the vigilance that we as Jesus followers should have with the return of the Son of Man.

The point is we should be ready, alert and prepared because when Jesus returns we don’t want to be on the receiving end of Jesus’ wrath and judgement. What Peter is getting at is that everything is going to be laid bare. Jesus is going to expose all the evil that has gone on throughout the world’s history. Everything that has been hidden will be exposed; even the very heavens themselves will not survive God’s judgement.

That is why it is paramount that we receive the gospel of Jesus Christ. We repent by asking Jesus to forgive us of all our sins, confess Jesus as Lord, believe that He truly is Lord, and commit ourselves to following Him for the rest of our days so we shall be saved.  For truly only those who are followers of Jesus Christ will be saved from this impending judgement that is coming to the heavens and the earth. So I urge you, follower of Christ, to be wholly dedicated and devoted to God so that you will face the end of time with hope in Christ.
