Exercise Your Spiritual Gift

1 Peter 4.10-11
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

When you became a Christian, the Holy Spirit gave you a spiritual gift. Each Christian has at least one spiritual gift for the purpose of serving one another. Peter encourages us to use our spiritual gifts mindful of God’s power and gifting. Even when we struggle Peter encourages us to give God glory through Jesus using our spiritual gifts because God reigns.

Do you know what your spiritual gift is? You might use a tool to help you understand your spiritual gift if you have never taken a spiritual gift assessment (see link below). Peter mentions two spiritual gifts—speaking and serving (what you say and how you live)—that cover every aspect of who we are.

There are many different gifts because God is the one who provides the gifts. We are stewards of God’s grace which is boundless. In Peter’s day a steward was a household slave who managed the owner’s property. God wants us to share our gifts in love for one another rather than keeping our spiritual gifts to ourselves.

Paul shares about spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12 followed by a beautiful exposition on love within the church in chapter 13. Both Peter and Paul help us understand that we serve one another with our spiritual gifts in an environment of love. How are you using your spiritual gift to serve the church today? How is a fellow believer serving you with his or her gift?

Blessings,
Anna
