Walking in Wisdom

Proverbs 3.21.26
My son, do not lose sight of these - keep sound wisdom and discretion, and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck. Then you will walk on your way securely, and your foot will not stumble. If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.

Proverbs 3.21-26 is one passage among many in Proverbs of fatherly advice. Do you remember particular things your father and mother taught you? As we celebrate Mother's Day this Sunday, you might be reminiscing about advice from your parents. Perhaps you have shared advice.
We are encouraged to be wise and discerning. Wisdom is a wonderful quality. It is important to have good judgment. The imagery of Proverbs speaks to the blessing of having wisdom and discernment. When we are wise and discerning we have a full and eternal life. Wisdom and discernment are like a beautiful necklace. It's attractive.
The passage goes on to show that we can be sure of our way. We can sleep peacefully at night because we have made good decisions. We have nothing to fear because of the confidence we have in God. Proverbs 1.7a says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge." To know God and to trust God is wise. Are you waking in wisdom today?
